Onward & Upward

About Us

Onward & Upward is a community-based nonprofit school in the Mat-Su Valley specializing in outdoor adventure and experiential education. Accredited by the Association for Experiential Education (AEE), we use hands-on learning, outdoor exploration, and meaningful relationships to promote a culture of One Health in Alaska—recognizing the interconnected well-being of people, communities, places, and the planet.

Our programs primarily serve youth ages 13–18 through school-year courses, after-school programming, and summer expedition experiences, while also offering opportunities for adults and families. From rock climbing, backpacking, and canoeing to trail building, service learning, and health and wellness education, our programs help participants build practical skills, confidence, resilience, healthy relationships, and a stronger connection to the natural world.

Based in the Mat-Su Valley, Onward & Upward partners with schools, organizations, and communities throughout Alaska to create meaningful learning experiences that support individual growth and community well-being. We believe adventure and experiential learning can help people discover their potential, strengthen their communities, and develop a deeper sense of responsibility and respect for the people and environments with which we share our lives.
