DESCRIPTION:The best way to see Alaska is on the Railroad and the training program provides students with excellent job skills and opportunities in the visitor industry with specific focus as a tour guide for the Alaska Railroad. Summer employment with the Alaska Railroad may be available for those who successfully complete the course.\n\n\n\nApplicants must be 16 years old\, a junior or senior in high school and possess a 2.5 cumulative GPA. THis spcialized training includes customer service\, cross-cultural communication\, public speaking\, Alaska geography\, economics\, history and visitor-related interests.\n\n\n\nStudents selected to be tour guides for the Alaska Railroad are expected to work full time during the summer between the end and the beginning of the school year. Any time off must be prearranged and authorized.
