Our client is an Anchorage institution — a locally owned retail destination known for quality workwear, outdoor gear, and Alaskan-made products. They're looking for a strategic, hands-on marketing leader to grow their brand, expand their reach, and help guide the company into its next chapter.
The Opportunity
The Director of Marketing is responsible for developing and executing the client's marketing strategy across digital, social, print, and in-store channels. This position works closely with ownership and collaborates cross-functionally with merchandising, corporate outfitting, operations, accounting, and retail teams to drive brand growth and strengthen market presence.
Leadership & Strategy
- Develop and manage the annual marketing budget, providing strategic direction for allocation across channels and initiatives.
- Set and evaluate short- and long-term marketing strategies aligned with the company's business goals.
- Lead and support a small internal marketing team (marketing assistant and coordinator), fostering accountability, collaboration, and results-driven execution.
Digital Marketing
- Develop and lead the digital marketing strategy including SEO, paid search, paid social, display advertising, and streaming/CTV advertising.
- Oversee social media marketing across all platforms, driving brand growth, engagement, and customer loyalty.
- Manage website marketing performance including traffic growth, search rankings, digital campaigns, and conversion optimization.
- Evaluate emerging platforms and marketing technologies to keep them competitive in the evolving retail landscape.
Brand & Content
- Ensure brand consistency across retail stores, e-commerce, social media, and advertising — staying true to the company's voice and identity.
- Oversee creative development for print, digital, social, and in-store marketing materials.
- Lead production of the annual catalog, ensuring it reflects the brand, meets strategic objectives, and is delivered on schedule.
Vendor & Co-Op Marketing
- Develop co-branded marketing campaigns that align vendor objectives with merchandising priorities.
- Manage the execution, tracking, and collection of co-op/MDF funds budgeted for the fiscal year.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in marketing, business, communications, or a related field — or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 5 years of marketing experience, preferably in retail, consumer brands, or small-to-mid-sized company environments.
- Demonstrated experience leading marketing initiatives with measurable results across multi-channel settings.
- Experience managing a small internal team (1–5 people) and external creative partners.
- Strong strategic thinking balanced with a hands-on, executional approach.
- Data-driven mindset — comfortable using analytics and insights to evaluate performance and optimize campaigns.
- Self-motivated, highly organized, and able to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to think creatively under deadline with acute attention to detail.
Required Technical Proficiencies
- Digital & Social: Meta Business Suite, Meta Ads, Google Ads, SEO tools, streaming/CTV platforms
- Creative & Design: Adobe Creative Cloud Suite — Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro, After Effects
- E-Commerce: Shopify
- Productivity: Microsoft Office Suite (advanced Excel preferred)
Work Environment
This position is based in a dynamic, small business setting with offices on the second floor of our Midtown Anchorage retail store. You'll occasionally be on the retail floor or in the warehouse. Some evenings and weekends may be required. This is a fully on-site role.
