What is Winter Discovery Day?
Winter Discovery Day is a half-day event designed to connect locals to winter recreation opportunities and resources in the valley. The main staging area for activities will be at Hatcher Pass and Government Peak Recreation Area (GPRA). We are partnering with local businesses and nonprofits to offer a variety of activities (snowshoeing, xc skiing, sledding, avalanche preparedness activities, and hot chocolate) at different trailheads.
Please note parking fees apply. Government Peak Recreation Area (GPRA) is a Mat-Su Borough maintained trailhead. Gold Mint and Independence Mine are Alaska State Parks maintained trailheads.
