SUMMARY:Volunteer for Hospice Open House
DESCRIPTION:We are looking for Hospice Volunteers to recruit in the Wasilla and surrounding areas. Volunteering with hospice is a wonderful service to our community. A service which builds skills for employment and life in general. Ancora encourages persons from 18 and older to attend. We offer this opportunity to support those facing the stages of end of life. Anyone can be a Hospice Volunteer\; Veterans\, employed or unemployed\, retired or college students (especially healthcare students). Volunteering for Ancora Hospice includes free classroom training and online educational opportunities. It takes a very special kind of person to become a Hospice Volunteer. At Ancora we treat our volunteers like employees when being hired on\, they go through an application\, interview and background check. When we sign on a volunteer we ask for a commitment of at least a full year of being able to provide volunteer hours of at minimum 1-2 hours per week. This does not include anticipated/planned vacation times. We have opportunities in the office as well as one on one with patients entering their last stages of life. We suggest to individuals and students with heavy loads to still consider volunteering as a substitute for our other volunteers when they have medical or out of state absences. We have opened a new office in Anchorage and they will be looking for Hospice Volunteers in the near future. We have had volunteers in the past run errands\, provide shopping or respite for the family caregivers. Volunteers will read out loud to the patients and sing or play music. Companionship\, conversation\, listening and providing presence are all things volunteers give of freely with their available time. We can provide letters of recommendation for individuals looking to apply for employment opportunities and letters for students moving on to graduate school or looking for acceptance to a four year college. We are hoping to expand our volunteer services to offer art and crafts\, journaling life stories\, errand runners\, knitting Alzheimer activity mittens or blankets\, making memory pillows and photo journaling. Thank you for providing this opportunity to the Wasilla Community!
